A journey from interest to passion

Many of us spend our lives trying to discover our self and understanding our capabilities. But, as quoted by George Bernard Shaw, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself”.  It’s through the challenges we face, that we realize what we are truly capable of.

As I look back, I don’t think I can thank my parents enough for helping me become the person that I am today. My mother always told me, “Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to follow your dreams.” It is because of her that I could take a step forward in following my passion – writing.

Following your passion is the key to enjoying life. If we are not passionate enough about our work, then the end results won’t really matter.  Ever since I was a kid, I have always nurtured a desire for writing.

Writers need to be readers

Passion for writing always goes hand in hand with a passion for reading. I think it was at the school library where I was introduced to the art of reading. The art of reading helps engage the reader in a new world with different characters built by the writer. One tends to get lost in the world created by the writer.  I remember reading the Harry Potter series and wishing that there would be a school like Hogwarts in reality too. Reading novels and autobiographies made me wonder what it would be like to write something on my own. Developing the skill of writing is not an easy task and requires patience and taking small steps at a time.

Small steps

My first step was keeping my own daily diary. Initially I would wonder as to what to write about in my diary and would start with documenting my daily routine. After a few days I would stop since I would get busy with day to day tasks. Right after that, I started building a collection of famous quotes and poems. Reading them inspired me when I faced difficulties and they gave me the strength to confront my fears.

But, it was not until three years ago, that I wrote my first technical article for the company that I work for. The process of developing an article is in itself a tedious one and requires research. It was only through the support and faith of my mentor that I could complete this task which loomed as a huge challenge in front of me then.

Since then, I have written quite a few articles and blogs. Every article that I wrote helped me take a step forward in the direction of pursuing my passion and, finally today, I have written my first blog.

A new Beginning

Its been a long road reaching this point. I have failed many a times but as the quote says,   “You have to fall down before you can learn to stand tall”. Also, as my dad says “Always live in the moment and enjoy life as it happens

So cheers to a new beginning! I hope you are there with me whilst I share my experiences.

  1. Superb.
One should always dream, because those dreams are converted into thoughts, and later those thoughts are transformed into action.
Same as you did. All the best for your future endeavors!

  2. Great & Congrats Shreya,

Really good thoughts and well written. Very practical. I can relate to a dialogue from 3 Idiots…kabil bano kabil….passion for something…success will come…

Understand you own capability, interest, attitude and march ahead…

“Don’t ever let somebody tell you… You can’t do something. Not even me. Alright? You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do something’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want something’, go get it. Period.”

All the best for future blogs….waiting to see much more inspirational.
