Music – An Unsaid Emotion

“Where words leave off, music begins.” – Heinrich Heine

Music has always been an important part of my life, like an invisible friend who can understand my thoughts and feelings. I was introduced to it as a kid when I started learning how to play the harmonium and then after a few years the guitar.

But, even before that, i would sit by the window and sing songs, practically wrong lyrics but the right tune, as told by my mother and grandmother. It surely proves as a reminder that “Music is just an emotion.” I have always wondered how I chose my favourite songs, but its more like the songs are choosing me.

It has always been the case, when I listen to new songs, be it any language, or any genre. Some have clicked right in the beginning. Some of my all-time favourites are:

  1. I want it that way – Backstreet Boys
  2. Pehla Nasha – Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander (Hindi)
  3. My Heart will go on – Celine Dion
  4. Boy with Luv – BTS
  5. Colourblind – Darius Campbell
  6. O Sanam – Lucky Ali (Hindi)
  7. Ka Kalena – Mumbai Pune Mumbai (Marathi)
  8. Truly Madly Deeply – Savage Garden
  9. Buttabomma – Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (Telugu)
  10. One Love – Blue

A recent addition to this list would be

  1. Butter by BTS and
  2. Dancing in the kitchen by Lany (heard this yesterday)and it has been on my mind since then.

These are not rankings but just songs at the top of my mind now. It is an endless list, with songs by Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Enrique Iglesias, Blue, Backstreet Boys, BTS, Westlife, Shakira, Shankar Mahadevan, Swapnil Bandodkar, Justin Bieber, One Direction and many more that are part of it too.

Instrumentals are also a different mood altogether, with Kenny G being my favourite. Every instrument has its own sweet sound but my favourite is the saxophone. Just listen to Careless Whispers – George Michael (Instrumental) and Havana – Kenny G.

Damn, when it comes to music, I can just keep writing on and on. Honestly, if I have to picture an ideal day in my life, it would be sitting in my room, probably facing the beach, reading a novel with soft music playing in the background. Hoping that this day comes soon.

Ending the post with,

“I wish my life had a background music, so I could understand what is going on”
